I am a foreign national; is it possible to open a bank account?

Yes, it is possible. Foreign nationals residing in Japan should prepare their My Number Card and either their Residence Card or Special Permanent Resident Certificate (with an expiration date of at least one month) before proceeding with account opening. Please note that due to US tax law regulations, individuals with US tax obligations (US citizens, US permanent residents, and US residents) cannot open an account.

Where can I open an account?

You can open an account through the Woodstock app. Please follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the account opening process. A My Number Card is required to open an account. If you have added your My Number Card data to Apple Wallet, you can use that data to open an account (foreign nationals and those whose My Number Card name includes Roman letters should use other account opening methods).

I don't know my login ID or password.

Accepted Answer

The Woodstock app requires you to log in using your email address.

An authentication code will be sent to the email address you registered. Please enter the code to log in. If you do not receive the email, please check your spam folder.

Furthermore, with the introduction of passkeys, passkey authentication will be required when logging in.

Can I open an account without using the app?

Accepted Answer

If you wish to trade using the Woodstock app, you will need to open an account with AlpacaJapan Co., Ltd. through the Woodstock app.
